4/29/2005: CapTel Trial extended and expanded
To All CapTel Trial Participants:
You are all aware that the Captioned telephone (CapTel) and service you are currently using is being provided as part of a trial of this service. We had previously informed all trial participants that the trial was scheduled to conclude at the end of this month.
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has just informed the DDTP that the Captioned telephone (CapTel) trial program will be modified and extended beyond the original/current trial program completion date of April 30th. You should receive an information package and various forms regarding the expanded field trial by mail very soon.
Effective May 1st, the CapTel 800 number used to reach California CapTel users will be changing. After this date, please inform your callers to dial (866)399-9050 for English calls or (866)399-9090 for Spanish calls.
Please rest assured that your CapTel service will not be interrupted at all during this transition. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our CRS Administrative Assistant, Caylin Yula, at (510) 302-1100 ext.145 (voice) or (510) 302-1111 (TTY) or email at caylin@ddtp.org.
Thank you for your participation in the DDTP's Captioned telephone trial.
Sincerely,
David Weiss
California Relay Service (CRS) Department Manager
1/17/2005: Equipment Campaign (CTAP)
DDTP designed a campaign that would allow for advertising in bus shelters, radio broadcasts and newspapers using English, Spanish and Chinese languages. The eligibility certification form is included in the newspaper ads to allow the consumer to respond more readily. Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking call center representatives are making communication easier and allow the DDTP to increase its presence in these underserved communities. During each campaign the program hopes to broaden its focus, to include still more communities and consumers who are unfamiliar with the DDTP and its program offerings.
12/1/2004: NEW CTAP EQUIPMENT
A new device, known as the Basic Fluency System (with a telephone interface), has been added to the CTAP equipment program and it will allow speech disabled consumers to control stuttering when using the telephone. This device will benefit almost anyone with a speech disability (related to stuttering) that has difficulty being understood when using the telephone because it can enhance speech fluency.
